Baby
Crib
A
special gift from a mother to a daughter as a
new baby arrives.
This
crib had been in this client’s family for
200 years, handed down from one generation to
the next. She has been told that her great-great
grandfather was a baby in this crib.
Along
the way, this crib had been painted countless
times, even to the point where the profile on
the spindles could not be recognized.
After
disassembly, dipping the parts in stripper was
the only way to remove layer upon layer of paint
A thorough after-wash was applied to remove all
traces of the stripper. Underneath it all was
a combination of oak, maple and pine.
The
finish applied was a concern because of the fact
this would hold a baby whose natural tendencies
could bring them in contact with the finish. A
water-based, non-toxic poly was applied.
The
original worn and rusted casters were replace
with solid brass reproductions.
