Fireplace Mantle Retrofit

Here’s a solution to a client’s frustration. The client had gutted this living room (see “before” picture) and painstakingly refinished it including adding black marble stone to the firebox face. The client then searched for a mantle kit; two sizes were available, but one was too short, the other was too long.

They contacted us for a solution. Two criteria had to met; the client wanted maximum exposure of the marble stone, and the mantle shelf had to have relative length to the firebox surround without extending too close to the edge of the right wall.

We were able to modify the surround unit that came in the original kit, but we had to reproduce a mantelshelf that was the right length and still looked identical to the original that came with the kit. It was stained to match other furniture and millwork in the room.
