Large computer work station table

A marketing company commissioned us to build two of these large tables for a graphic design department they were forming. The design called for a table that would accommodate two workstations, with room for layouts and computers. Also, because of their size, the design would have to include the ability for them to be disassembled.

The tables measure 97” L x 49” W x 31” H. The top is a full sheet of ¾” oak veneer plywood, wrapped with 1 ½” thick rounded molding to hide the plywood laminations and give the illusion of a much thicker top.
The legs were made from salvaged oak church pews (the vertical ends), planed, modified and turned upside down. The multi-laminations in the legs provide an extremely stable member at 1 ¼” thick. The through-bolt design securing the legs to the table top stretchers, provide stability for the amount of weight the tables will be expected to support, but make it easy to disassemble if needed. Due to the overall length, a center leg and rear stretcher were added to eliminate any racking or sag.
Cutouts in the rear of the tabletop provide relief for computer cordage, allowing the tables to fit tight against a wall.

A golden oak stain sealed with three coats of urethane help the tables blend in with existing millwork.
